Ko Ngati Ranginui te iwi, Ko Takitimu te waka. Tauranga te moana, Tauranga te tangata. I am Allanah Winiata-Kelly, and my role is the Maaori Future Workforce Coordinator for Ko Awatea and Counties Manukau Health.
My work is focussed on supporting Maaori students who show a desire and passion to have a career in health. By providing a culturally responsive programme to support Maaori students, we are more likely to gain academic and health excellence for our whaanau and community.
I choose to work in the health sector because I can see the potential for innovation and improvement to our health care systems. By applying a whaanau-centred approach to all aspects of what we as Counties Manukau Health provide to whaanau, we will be able to achieve the best outcomes for our whaanau.
We need to work towards empowering our whaanau and community to have a voice in their care and well-being. They should be at the centre of all that we do. We need to keep our services flexible to respond the varying needs and circumstances of our community.
We are the enablers to their future well-being. They are the leaders of their own futures.
