The benefits of attending pulmonary rehabilitation have been well researched internationally and form part of the New Zealand chronic obstructive airway disease (COPD) pathway.
Through the 20,000 days ‘Everybody Everyday’ Campaign, two ‘Better Breathing’ community programmes have been set up within Counties Manukau Health, as part of the move to provide patient centred care closer to home and meet the needs of the local population.
Better Breathing recently enrolled it’s 500th patient. That’s an amazing result, however what’s even more remarkable is the difference the programmes have made to patient’s lives – patient’s like Piki who says …..
“It’s been a real turning point and has given me back a lifestyle. I’m grateful for the whole thing and feel more independent now”
The Better Breathing programme involves individually designed exercise programmes, which are helping people to achieve their goals and education sessions to provide the tools, needed to manage their multi-dimensional health conditions.
