Research shows the positive outcomes of Early Childhood Education (ECE) participation on the learning dispositions and cognitive, social, and emotional development of children, all of which have lifelong impacts. ECE participation has also been shown to enable parents to learn more about parenting, develop social and community networks, and build greater confidence; and participate in paid employment. These positive and empowering outcomes combine to contribute to family and societal functioning. As a result, a key goal of the NZ Government is that in 2016, 98% of children starting school will have participated in quality ECE.
