There are inequities within our community that need to be addressed in order for all people to live longer, healthier lives. This need is reflected in Counties Manukau Health’s strategic plan “Healthy Together” which aims to achieve equity in key health indicators for Māori, Pacific and high needs communities with health disparities. 47% of Māori children and 56% of Pacific children in Counties Manukau are overweight or obese.
We also need to build the capability of our workforce and apply a consistent health equity approach to our work to ensure maximum impact strengthens the equity culture within our organisation. That’s why the focus of the Health Equity campaign will foster efforts to achieve the vision of enabling all people in our community to live longer, more abundant and healthier lives by reducing health disparities experienced by Māori and Pacific communities by December 2018.
