Who we are

Ko Awatea is Counties Manukau Health's (CM Health) centre for health system innovation and improvement.

Working within the system, Ko Awatea's purpose is to enable and support individuals and teams within CM Health to continuously improve the service and care we deliver to our patients, whaanau and Counties Manukau community.

Together with clinicians and their wider teams we co-design people-centred, equitable and sustainable systems, services and processes so that our patients can receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

How we do it

Ko Awatea prioritises and manages programmes and projects that align with CM Health's strategic objectives, applying a mix of quality improvement methodologies with a commitment to evidence-informed decision making and rigorous evaluation of outcomes.

We work to reduce harm, waste, duplication, fragmentation and inappropriate variation in our health system.

We partner with services and teams to develop a culture of continuous quality improvement and learning, by providing mentoring, training and leadership support.
