Congratulations to the Feet for Life team for producing and sharing their first health system improvement guide.
The guide describes the project the team undertook as part of Counties Manukau Health’s Beyond 20,000 Days campaign. It includes the problem the team addressed, their aim, the improvements they developed and tested, and the outcomes of their project.
Feet for Life is a multidisciplinary collaborative project that has improved access to podiatry services for diabetic patients receiving dialysis in Counties Manukau by incorporating podiatry care into dialysis units.
The project significantly reduced the number of amputations among diabetic patients on dialysis. It also drastically reduced patient waiting time to see a podiatrist and the did-not-attend rate for appointments. Cost savings have also resulted from the project.
The health system improvement guide is a celebration of the Feet for Life team’s hard work, and a learning tool for other health professionals wanting to adopt and implement the project in their own areas.
