What really matters in healthcare delivery? To understand this, we must ask the only people who experience everything first-hand – the patients and their caregivers. Patient Journey Mapping involves construction of a patient journey ‘map’ that evolves from semi-structured interviews with patients, carers and their multidisciplinary team. Journeys track patient experience medically from pre-diagnosis to recovery or palliative care, overlayed with emotional and sociocultural impacts and understandings. Patient Journeys are presented visually using imagery from patient stories to illustrate the full experience. Innovative solutions can then be co-designed between patient groups, carers, and service providers.
