“People talk about the need to change to get somewhere, but the problem is we don’t know where we’ve got to get to…” – CMDHB staff member
Ko Awatea’s name is about the first light. Hopefully you’ve read our newsletters about Ko Awatea – if not you can find it here.
Ko Awatea’s about shedding light on how we can do things differently. We all know that in these times, there’s less money and a whole lot more demand. That’s the reality.
We’re really good at what we do, but we also know that doing the same thing hard and faster isn’t the answer if we’re to improve. It’s the old story – if you do the same thing, you’ll get the same results. Well, in fact, you go backwards because the rest of the world moves on.
We’ve achieved many successes, done good work and developed great expertise. Now we want to be prepared so that we can manage and thrive in a changing world.
We’re going to get back to basics. We’re investing in our staff. We’re providing the tools, education, resources, skills, confidence and the license to figure out how we’re going to work in the future.
This means improving our services to patients, help improve the population’s health, and do all of that under a sinking financial lid.
Ko Awatea is our investment in us. It would be good if it were an instant solution to all our problems – it’s not.
But it is a long-term investment that’s more than worthwhile – it’s essential if we’re to deliver on our Triple Aim. That is what sets our direction and our goal.
