Results from a collaboration between Ko Awatea and Counties Manukau Health nursing staff have been published in a leading nursing magazine.
Patient Safety; Keeping it Real By Walking the Ward, features in the April 2016 issue of Nursing Review and was written by clinical nurse director Jacqui Wynne-Jones and Ko Awatea improvement leaders Lynne Maher and Bev McClelland.
The report outlines the impact of fortnightly rounds to Middlemore Hospital wards by a team of six, including at least one member of the executive.

The team on the rounds used three qualitative tools to assess the safety of a ward and to capture the experience of staff and patients on that ward.
At the end of each walk round, a summary identifying good practice and practice that required improvement was produced.
The rounds were found to reinforce the importance of good leadership on the wards and acted as a vehicle for spreading good practice and new ideas.
