Each year in November thousands of men around the world grow moustaches to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. A moustache growing charity striving to drive extensive outcomes for two of the biggest health issues men can face; prostate cancer and mental health issues.
On Movember 1st, ten bright eyed men from Ko Awatea started the month with a clean-shaven face. Since then they have been trimming, combing and waxing their way into the art of fine moustachery.
The group of men involved in Movember at Ko Awatea had to raise money by getting the support of their family and friends to sponsor them for their moustache growing efforts. The official name of all the men who got involved in the growing are known as Mo Bros. The women in their lives who supported them be it sister’s, wives, aunties or friends are known as Mo Sisters.
The team of Ko Awatea Mo Bros had mug shot photos taken throughout the month to show their progress of their ‘Mo’ growing abilities.
Dee Al-Nawab from the Decision Support Unit came into Ko Awatea Centre at the end of the month to judge who had grown the best moustache. Dee chose Alex Twigg for his great enthusiasm throughout the month. Dee donated one hundred dollars towards Alex’s total of money raised for the month. Dee’s generous friends and family pulled together another $150 between themselves to go towards the Ko Awatea Mo Bro’s team total. The Ko Awatea Mo Bro’s raised $1,510. Alex Twigg raised the most dollars in the group for growing his moustache.
Supported by the women and men in their lives, the Mo Bros raised funds and awareness by nurturing their fluffy locks as a symbol of the need for change.
