DOWNLOAD THE POSTERNurse managers are an integral and vital player in the delivery of healthcare services. However, often nurse managers are confronted by what are commonly called ‘wicked problems’ in their day to day work environments. These ‘wicked problems’ often arise from a lack of leadership and power, are often linked with the changing market logic and can result in poor quality patient care and adverse patient outcomes. Aiken1 and Laschinger2 in their research have demonstrated the importance nurse leadership holds on improving patient outcomes. New Zealand nurse managers from across the DHBs participated in this research. The aim of the research was to understand nurse managers’ perceptions of the supports and barriers in delivering quality nursing care in the current fiscally challenged environment.
