Born in Middlemore hospital and raised in South Auckland, Alex is New Zealand Maaori and Cook Island. With a Bachelor of Business in management and experience in Pacific and Maaori student recruitment into tertiary education, Alex helped implement the development of AUT University’s South Campus in 2010 and lead the recruitment of the campuses first student cohort. Her experience in student recruitment and passion for working with youth became the stepping stones into health workforce development at CMDHB where she co-delivered and developed a secondary school-based programme to support local Pacific and Maaori high school students into health career pathways. With an ongoing commitment and passion for Pacific and Maaori success, Alex is now leading ‘Handle the Jandal’, a Pacific youth-led campaign within Ko Awatea that works with local Pacific youth to improve Pacific youth mental health and wellbeing, using community organising methodology. As a leader for youth in her church, Alex has the privilege of serving her community both in her work and personal life and is driven by her core values of family and faith.
