Dr Doris Ching joined Ko Awatea in January 2014 as Finance Manager responsible for managing the financial resources in Ko Awatea and its related projects.
Doris has been a Chartered Accountant for over 10 years and is a full member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. Doris holds two master degrees; Master of Business and Master of Professional Business Studies as well as a doctoral degree in Doctor of Philosophy. Her research areas are financial reporting, financial management and budget setting process. Doris has extensive financial and accounting experience in various sectors: disabilities, school, tertiary education and public sector.
Prior to joining Ko Awatea, Doris was the Finance Manager at Spectrum Care, a large residential care service provider for intellectual disabilities. While she was there, she reformed the traditional budgeting process by involving budget holder participation, continuous stakeholder engagement and restructuring a new cost model to remove the arbitrary corporate overheads allocation. The new cost model allows the production of financial reports which are transparent and budgets which are controllable.
Prior to moving to New Zealand 17 years ago, Doris worked in Hong Kong Housing Department managing government properties for nearly 20 years. She had been involved in building repairs and maintenance, tenancy enforcement, computing systems implementation and budgeting.
Doris is committed to the principles of efficiencies and effectiveness. Her work focus is on financial performance analysis, system and process improvement and engaging people that help to drive innovative solutions.
