Scottish GP and patient safety expert Dr Neil Houston is visiting Ko Awatea this week.
Dr Houston leads the Scottish Primary Care Patient Safety Programme in Scotland and is also the international consultant for the Auckland region’s Safety in Practice Programme.
He will visit a number of Auckland practices and meet with clinical leaders involved in the programme, which began as a result of a presentation he delivered at APAC Forum 2013.
During this visit he will also lead a teaching session with general practice teams from 32 different practices across the three Auckland-area DHBs.
Teams will focus on achieving targets in relation to four key risk areas; management of laboratory results, reconciliation of medication on discharge from hospital, warfarin management and management of opioids.
Teams involved in the Safety in Practice programme will also get the opportunity to report on their progress since the programme began in March 2014.
