It was standing room only for Sir Mansel Aylward’s second and final lecture at Ko Awatea. Following on from the last session around leadership Sir Mansel asked the following questions: “What in your opinion has had the greatest impact on the NZ health system and when looking at these areas what was the leadership role?”
In response to the first question answers ranged from the introduction of Plunket, the evolution of the public health system, the increase in knowledge that has allowed us to make huge advances in healthcare improvement and community resilience i.e. being self reliant. The second question produced an interesting discussion around the types of leaders and the qualities that enabled them to mobilise communities to follow their vision and values.
