Congratulations to the 17 graduates of the Healthy Hearts ‘Fit to Exercise’ Programme – an 8 week programme aimed at improving the ‘heart health’ of people living with heart failure in South Auckland
This unique collaboration between AUT University and CM Health (as part of the Beyond 20,000 Days Campaign) offers people with heart failure an individual tailor made exercise and fitness programme and the opportunity to use local and high quality facilities at the AUT Manukau Campus.
The positive health outcomes for participants and their families have been significant with people feeling healthier, fitter, lighter (due to weight loss), more confident and motivated to make lifestyle changes towards a better more healthier outlook.
Following completion of the programme participants are re-assessed and given the all clear to work independently within local gyms and other exercise settings. Referrals can also be made to other community based programmes
Presenting the graduates with their certificates of achievement was Isa Nacewa, a retired NZ rugby union footballer, who recently played for Leinster (province in Ireland) and is now working with the Blues
Isa congratulated each participant, wishing them well for the future.
Many thanks to Kaumatua Eru Thompson (AUT) and Whitiora Cooper (CM Health) for opening the event
